Kailo Training Institute equips Christian Pastoral Counsellors to support people and care for hurting people. Counselling is a cooperative relationship between a counsellor and a client. A counsellor helps a client to discover wellness and wholeness by using a purposeful plan.

Many people have a longing to make a difference in people’s lives, but they doubt whether they can help others.

“Can I be a good counsellor?”

If you have this question in your heart, we have a complimentary 20-question quiz that you can complete. Dr Barbara Louw developed the questionnaire with the knowledge and insight she accumulated during 25+ years of workings side-by-side with volunteer supporters and professional counsellors.

The quiz is on a secure platform which means that you will be required to register, accept the T&Cs and verify your registration to show that you are a human.

The link to the QUIZ.  The quiz is in English only.

The partner organisations in this venture are Inter Trauma Nexus, Aquilla Training, the Association for Christian Ministries and Aquilla Wellness Solutions.

Can we form a study group for my organisation/congregation/team? Open

Kailo Training Institute's team believe that every church, school and community organization have the potential to be an excellent opportunity for Christian Pastoral Counsellors. This is the reason why we allow learners to do their practical components in the area/s where they are involved in ministry.

Study groups of 3+ learners from the same organisation, team or congregation can be formed. Such a study group must have a clear common denominator that links learners together.

An example of a study group can be a congregation with a pastor, youth pastor and people in roles where they deal with children, the elderly, women and family matters.

The possible study groups can include community centres, crisis teams, a community forum, and youth development projects or mission teams.

The advantage of being a study group is working together and being able to encourage each other. The facilitators will be mindful of structuring practical work in a manner that links team members together around the study group’s common denominator.

If you want to initiate a study group you can consult with This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. He is the study group facilitator.

The world of study has opened up to new social classes and communities that had limited prospects of expanding their knowledge and skills.

Kailo Training Institute uses a blended online learning strategy that consists of two parts. There is a part of the content that is delivered through interactive or face-2-face presentations with the copresents of the facilitators and learners. The other part is the online delivery of content and instruction where the learner is in control of the place, pace, path and time of learning. These two delivery strategies take advantage of asynchronous methods that include online discussions, assessment analysis, learner feedback and online or study group collaboration.

You can participate in Kailo Training Institutes from anywhere in the world!

No, you don’t have to be a pastor. However, pastors, co-pastors and youth pastors will benefit greatly from the training. The training is structured to also be applicable for multi-vocational pastors and ministers.

Kailo Training Institute focuses on Christian Pastoral Counselling training because we believe that the body of Christ has many parts and everyone has a purpose and a ministry.

Ministry means serving God’s people and reaching out to the unreachable to help them to become well and whole in God. People in faith communities and our neighbourhoods have important roles to play in caring for people who struggle with adversity.

As a part-time learner, it is sensible to invest 8 to 10 hours per week in your studies and additional reading. The facilitators recommend breaking these hours up into smaller chunks of an hour or two every day because that will allow free time.

Postgraduate learners will have to plan to spend 12 to 15 hours per week because completing the prescribed modules, as well as a dissertation or thesis requires a greater commitment.
