Kailo Training Institute is a counselling school without walls. You can study anywhere in the world, provided you have access to the internet and a computer. Online programmes provide opportunities to learn and engage with people from different backgrounds and experiences.

However, you need to ensure that you have internet access.

If you know that you have a God-given calling plus energy, intelligence and aspiration you will enjoy the journey.

The most important motivation for studying is personal development (75%), followed by career/professional development (25%).

Those who enrolled on postgraduate courses indicate that the most important motivation for studying was personal development (70%), and missing out earlier in life also featured (10%).

You will be able to enjoy the programme if you have a sound achievement of English with verbal ability to express yourself.

Learners are introduced to research and writing skills, as well as a counsellor’s boundaries and ethical conduct. The Bible (in your mother tongue as well as an English translation) is the vital handbook in this course.

The most important study strategy throughout the programme will be to work and read regularly. If you feel that you struggle or get stuck, ask for assistance from the facilitator on the specific module.

Yes, you can do the first year and achieve a certificate. The core of the first year’s modules introduces learners to the essence of Christian Pastoral Counselling and helping others.

On all pre-graduate programmes, Kailo Training Institute implements formative assessment. This means you will be continuously assessed as you work through online modules. The continuous assessment gives learners a greater chance for optimal learning that leads to success.

The results of the learner’s work throughout the year will be compiled into a transcript for evaluation and recognition by the Dean of Therapon University.

Postgraduate learners will be subject to formative and summative assessment and they have to successfully complete a dissertation or thesis.

As a part-time learner, it is sensible to invest 8 to 10 hours per week in your studies and additional reading. The facilitators recommend breaking these hours up into smaller chunks of an hour or two every day because that will allow free time.

Postgraduate learners will have to plan to spend 12 to 15 hours per week because completing the prescribed modules, as well as a dissertation or thesis requires a greater commitment.

Kailo Training Institute’s payment policy is explained before learners enrol and every learner gets a formal quotation before committing.

We do not offer bursaries or discounts, because we don’t get government subsidies. The cost for the pre-graduate programmes is spread over 10 months, without penalties or additional interest. The cost for the postgraduate programmes is spread over 20 months, without penalties or additional interest. The distribution of the fees over these periods are meant to mitigate your financial burden and risk.

Therapon University’s fees are payable at the end of the programme, as stipulated in the quotation and study agreement.

Age is not an obstacle when it comes to learning.

Mature adults show great enthusiasm to learn new skills and they understand that every day is a gift. They have more life experience and are excited about new research and inventions. They are more committed and therefore want more than lips service from a training institution.

We designed our programmes to help adult learner redefine their expectations and future contributions to our societies. If you know that you have a God-given calling plus energy, intelligence and aspiration you will enjoy the journey.

Older learners inspire the younger generations.

Prescribed media is an essential tool for a specific programme or module, for example, a copy of the Bible (in your mother tongue as well as an English translation).

Recommended media is optional because it constitutes useful material to clarify topics. Learners who are working on a tight budget can get along with their studies without buying or downloading the media.

If you have a family or are working, self-discipline is essential, so set easy, manageable goals.

Programmes delivered over the internet and part-time study give a degree of flexibility to fit in with learners’ lifestyles.

You can study anywhere in the world, provided you have access to the internet and a computer.

Kailo Training Institute attempt to create an individualized learning experience performed on a case-to-case and calling-to-calling basis. The preliminary interview is part of assessing your individual, God-giving calling, your strength and your interest. In this interview, we discuss your expectations and passion.

In this interview, we provide an overview of the specific course you are interested in, the cost implication and the blended method instruction strategies.

This is also your opportunity to ask questions and ensure that we have a mutual understanding of the implications of a non-secular training prospect.

The preliminary interview follows the information you provided in your Expression of Interest form and requested documents. The facilitator will discuss the information you provided. You don’t have to worry that you might be tongue-tied and nervous, because the facilitator will guide you through the conversation.

You can expect questions like…

  • What are you passionate about?
  • What do you see as your greatest strength?
  • What name do you want us to use when speaking to you?
  • What will a successful study year look like at the end of that year?

If you are involved in multi-vocational activities, like working and ministering, we would like to hear about that too.

Kailo Training Institute serves as a partner of Aquilla Training in providing short workshops. These workshops focus on specific elements and questions pertaining to self- development and continuous professional development.

The short workshops are online training courses that take between 4 and 6 hours to complete. Participants can download their certificates as soon as they completed the course. Employers and professional bodies can scan the QR code on the certificate to confirm the authenticity.

Kailo Training Institute offers year programmes and postgraduate study opportunities that lead to non-secular qualifications.

This means that no CPD points apply.

Many people’s school experience didn’t prepare them for studying, because of financial constraints, poverty, adverse family circumstances, limited guidance and other challenges. You might live far from study institutions and big cities, but this can be the way forward for you.

The only way to find out whether you can participate is to complete your Expression of Interest form and requested documents. We undertake to take your vocational experience, academic record and much more into account.

If you want to be trained as a Christian Pastoral Counsellor this is the place to start to find out what opportunities are available. Send your Expression of Interest without delay. We are looking forward to your mail.

Study groups of 3+ learners from the same organisation, team or congregation can be formed. Such a study group must have a clear common denominator that links learners together.

An example of a study group can be a congregation with a pastor, youth pastor and people in roles where they deal with children, the elderly, women and family matters.

The possible study groups can include community centres, crisis teams, a community forum, and youth development projects or mission teams.

The advantage of being a study group is working together and being able to encourage each other. The facilitators will be mindful of structuring practical work in a manner that links team members together around the study group’s common denominator.

If you want to initiate a study group you can consult with Rev Wynand Louw. He is the study group facilitator.

Onboarding is a welcome process to meaningful learning. During onboarding, you are introduced to the interaction processes between learners and facilitators, guidelines for interaction and ethical considerations.

The Learner Management System (LMS) assist to make learning more accessible than ever before. During onboarding, there are instructions on how to use the LMS, access to modules and topics, resources, assessment methods, your logbook and policies and procedures.

No, you don’t have to be a pastor.

Kailo Training Institute focuses on Christian Pastoral Counselling training because we believe that the body of Christ has many parts and everyone has a purpose and a ministry.

Ministry means serving God’s people and reaching out to the unreachable to help them to become well and whole in God. People in faith communities and our neighbourhoods have important roles to play in caring for people who struggle with adversity.

Many pastors are overwhelmed and ill-equipped by the increased counselling needs of the people in their care. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it became more visible how pastors struggle with their burden of care. They are bravely doing the best they can but are left frustrated and unfulfilled.

Kailo Training Institute will help pastors to refocus on their God-given calling and expand their passion by giving them the tools and methods to help people.

Yes, you will benefit greatly in expanding your skills and knowledge.

The important elements that will help you succeed as an adult learner are:

  • Your life experience
  • Need for directed knowledge and focused skills
  • Your motivation and orientation toward this method of learning
  • Your willingness to learn
  • Your ability to work self-directed and diligently towards your goal and God-given calling

The world of study has opened up to new social classes and communities that had limited prospects of expanding their knowledge and skills.

Kailo Training Institute uses a blended learning strategy that consists of two parts. There is a part of the content that is delivered through interactive or face-2-face presentations with the copresents of the facilitators and learners. The other part is the online delivery of content and instruction where the learner is in control of the place, pace, path and time of learning. These two delivery strategies take advantage of asynchronous methods that include online discussions, assessment analysis, learner feedback and online or study group collaboration.

You can participate in Kailo Training Institutes from anywhere in the world!
